Nice, quick read. Slightly unreliable narrator, which I'm not overly fond of, but it worked well. This was free on the Kindle when I got it, but not sure what the price is now. Worth it if free or $0.99 if you are into mystery with a twist. The length is what makes me say free-$0.99, not the quality of the work. A solid three stars.

REVIEW"A Hint of Murder - The Writer" was read on March 18, 2012, and I rate it 4 stars. This is a well-done short story. I liked the twist as to the authorship of the murders and the reason that led to them. I confess I suspected, but given the presentation of so many scenarios, I doubted my opinion. It turned out I was right. The dark final also pleased me.I wonder if the other stories in the collection are distinct narratives, or if there will be a continuation of this. I’d like to read a sequel.CRÍTICA“A Hint of Murder – The Writer” foi lido a 18 de Março de 2012 e atribuo-lhe 4 estrelas. O final sombrio também me agradou.Pergunto-me se as outras histórias da coleção são narrativas distintas, ou se alguma será a continuação desta. Gostava de ler uma sequela.

Murder in the murderer is no such ruinous thought as poets and romancers will have it; it does not unsettle him, or fright him from his ordinary notice of trifles; it is an act quite easy to be contemplated. - Ralph Waldo EmersonAlicia Fairfield is now a bestselling author but her popularity and reputation have been stained. someone is recreating the murders she wrote about in her books and Alice needs to know who and Lia Fairchild's short story is the first in her new murder mystery series. i find it a promising first one and it has all the ingredients of a classic whodunit. it is also well written and a fast-paced read.Alicia's emotional makeup and state of mind are aptly described. certain scenarios have been contrived that deepen the mystery surrounding the murders. i had to change my mind a couple of times as i tried to guess the person or persons responsible for the killings.i loved the revelations at the end. in some ways, i was right and in others i was wrong. these attempts at solving the puzzle on my own made my reading a very enjoyable one.

Alicia is a murder mystery writer. And someone is copying the murders in her books. She's completely freaked out and worried. Her publisher and son come to comfort her, but it doesn't stop the harassing phone calls or the break in. It also doesn't stop the guilt and worry.I love a good murder mystery. And this one's a good one. This is a short story that packs a lot into only a few pages. And it's well worth the read. I had no clue until the very end who the murderer was. And I'm usually good at guessing these things. My only complaint was that it wasn't nearly long enough. I can't wait to get my hands on more from this author.I received this book free of charge in exchange for my honest review.

The first installment in Lia Fairchild’s new short story series, A Hint of Murder, is The Writer. I haven’t read that many short stories I was willing to review, but I have to say that I was impressed with this one. Fairchild achieved what is not often accomplished in short stories. Through her storytelling ability, she created questions that pulled me along willingly and left me feeling like I had experienced the emotional ups and downs as well as all the twists and turns of at least a novella. If this short story is indicative of Lia Fairchild’s writing style, I will be looking forward to reading and reviewing her novel, In Search of Lucy. Reviewed for SPA Reviews at

This was a short story by Lia. Small and perfectly formed. It was a nicely rounded murder mystery about a serial killer who is copycatting the murders from the novels of a successful author. Each character was neatly drawn and there was just enough information about each of them to give them a status in the story and for you to perceive them; the plot had the right amount of intrigue for the length of the story and the conclusion left you pondering thoughtfully. To say anything more, would I think, spoil the story, but if you like short stories and have 45 minutes to fill, you won't go wrong with this.

Wow! All I can say is wow!! Even though this was a short story and it didn't take me long to read it, I really liked this! It had many twists and turns and kept me guessing until the very end. This was a truly fun and amazingly short, but thrilling ride. Can't wait to read more stories from Lia Fairchild. Five stars from me, for sure!!!

I didn't realize this was a short story but it got the story across and I never guessed "who dunnit" on my own. Very good especially for a short story as it draws you in, twists you around and then turns on you! Be aware its 42 pages long on your kindle. A nice read for a long wait in the doctor's office.

Alicia Fairfield, a writer, becomes worried when the murders in her books occur in real life. Can she determine the killer before too many more people are killed. An interesting short story.

An intriguing short mystery. Writers may identify with the characters taking over the author's life.

A short who-done-it mystery. Not a bad read but felt like there could have been more to it. With that being said, it was written well for a short story. Definitely didn't see the twist at the end coming!
