This is book two of the Circle Eight series featuring the Graham family. This installment is about Olivia Graham, and her love interest Brody. He is a Texas Ranger, and he is on the trail of the outlaws that may have been the kidnappers of the Graham's little brother. Olivia is one of those heroine's who are feisty as can be, bossy, and will NOT back down to any man. Even though Brody is also like that, these two develop a plan to work together to try and get her brother back. They team up and take off to Mexico....Brody is not happy to be taking Olivia to such a dangerous place, but she gave him no choice. This story is full of adventure, laughs, violence, and our favorite part; the sex!!!!Once again, I was pleasantly pleased with the story that Emma Lang created, and I look forward to seeing the other Graham family members fall in love. I enjoy that fact that this family is very close and extremely loyal to each other. This is exactly the type of family story that I crave. I am so glad that I gave this western historical romance series a go...and I just know the stories will get better and better!!!

Good book, as much adventure story as romance. The Graham family is still mourning the deaths of their parents and the kidnapping of their youngest sibling, five year old Benjy. Olivia has taken charge of caring for the family, becoming extremely bossy and hardheaded. When Texas Ranger Brody Armstrong, who has been investigating the kidnapping, arrives with news for her brother Matt, he's dismayed that Matt is away from home. He doesn't have time to wait for his return, and gives in to Olivia's insistence that he tell her what is happening, expecting her to inform Matt when he returns. Instead, he finds Olivia insisting on accompanying him.Brody is a loner who doesn't take on anyone as a partner, least of all a feisty, argumentative female. The events of his past have left him with his emotions buried deep behind walls, content to live his life constantly on the move. He's been attracted to Olivia since he met her, but doing anything about it would be a very bad idea. Olivia had a crush on him when they first met, but as months have passed with no progress in finding her brother, she buried that crush under anger at his apparent indifference to her pain.I loved their immediate clash when she insisted on going along, and he was equally insistent that she wasn't. He thought he hadn't gotten through to her when he left alone, only to find that she had followed him. It turned out to be a good thing she had when she saved him from two attackers, without losing her head or going into hysterics. He is unwillingly impressed by her, and agrees to let her come along for part of the journey, planning to leave her behind at some point. But Olivia is wise to his plans, and offers him several supremely logical and practical benefits to her presence.I also found it pretty amusing that each of them had the same effect on the other - neither could think straight when in close proximity. Brody especially found himself agreeing to all kinds of things when his mind was distracted by the way his body reacted to her. The chemistry between them was amazing. Olivia was no inexperienced virgin, and had no trouble making it clear to Brody that she wanted him. He tried to do the right thing at first, especially because of his friendship with her oldest brother, but he was no match for her determination. After their first time together, they had a really hard time keeping their hands off each other. I admit that I found it a little disturbing that they would give in to their desires in the middle of times when their safety was most at risk.It was interesting to see how their relationship developed. Not only did they have their smoking hot attraction, they also had a pretty good respect for each other's abilities. They were also far more alike than either suspected at the beginning, and as they spent time together those similarities drew them closer together. Because Olivia had been hurt by another man, it takes her awhile to trust Brody and what she is beginning to feel for him. For his part, Brody had never experienced love of any kind, and didn't recognize what he felt for her. He was constantly trying to fight it, certain that there was no way to keep her in his life as a Ranger. Once he finally recognized what he felt, it scared him spitless and sent him running, until he realized what he was doing. At that point it was almost too late, as she was in extreme danger. Olivia had recognized her feelings earlier and had the courage to admit them, but was devastated by his lack of response. I loved the vulnerability that Brody showed when he finally opened up to her. The ending was really sweet as Brody finally found what he hadn't even known he was searching for.The adventure part of the book was great. From the moment that Brody and Olivia set off together, it was one dangerous situation after another. When they were able to stop arguing long enough to work together, things went well. Unfortunately for them, their own individual issues kept putting them in danger. Unused to working with anyone, Brody isn't accustomed to sharing his plans with anyone. Leaving Olivia in the dark causes her to take things into her own hands, usually putting them into more danger. Olivia isn't known for her patience, and she has a tendency to rush in without considering possible consequences. Tracking down Roderigo gets them a little closer to finding Benjy, but puts them in far more danger than they expected. He is bad news, but his mother and sister end up being even worse. The final confrontation was intense, one that kept me riveted until I knew how it was going to work out.I liked the theme of the importance of family. It is Brody's lack of family that has made him the man that he is, and also pinpoints his vulnerable side. Though he doesn't realize it at first, he is envious of Olivia's closeness with hers. Olivia may have her moments of frustration with hers, but she knows that they are there when she needs them. I loved her brothers' determination to help Brody with her rescue, even as they hold him responsible for her trouble in the first place. Once the shooting was done, I liked their acceptance of him as part of the family. The youngest Graham girl was really sweet, especially at the end. I'm looking forward to reading more of this series.

Spoiler Ahead This was book two in the "Circle Eight" series. Olivia Graham has worked hard to take care of her younger brothers and sisters at the Circle Eight Ranch. But their family circle was broken when their young brother Benjy disappeared. She can't shake the feeling that he must be out there, somewhere. Brody Armstrong, a handsome but rough-around-the-edges Texas Ranger, has been working on their case for months, and now he has a promising lead. As Liv follows him across the rugged Texas landscape and into Mexico, she'll begin to find the answers she needs as Brody finds a passion he didn't know he wanted. Brody is the local Texas Ranger, faced with the responsibility to find the man responsible for the murders at the Circle Eight Ranch and the kidnapping of the youngest member of the family, a little boy named Benjy. After witnessing the death of his brothers at the hands of war, Brody is a hard man. He knows nothing else then fighting for what is right and bringing criminals to justice. He relies on no one but himself and doesn't work with a partner ever. When Brody gets some new information regarding the case he goes to the Circle Eight to tell Matthew but finds Olivia instead. Though he has no time to waste on a woman he finds himself drawn to her. Which he masks with indifference and attitude. Not that she makes it hard. Olivia is a smart mouthed and independent woman who isn't afraid to say exactly what was on her mind. She doubts his ability to find the men who killed her parents and took her brother so she thinks her best bet is to tag along and help. I really liked her attitude and completely fearless she has deadly aim. Olivia has never experienced the wanton feeling Brody manages to elicit out of her at the slightest touch or briefest glance. This was a really good book and too me it was better than book one in this series. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling like the first book in this series. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

This is book 2 in the Circle 8 series. Eight being the number of siblings in the Graham family. In book one we get a introduction to the family with Matthew the oldest. The Grahams are still mourning the murders of their parents and the disappearance of the baby of the family 5 year old Benjy. In Brody the search is still on for Benjy. Brody takes off for Mexico with Olivia hot on his heels. Olivia is a bit of a hot head. She's stubborn and tough and heartbroken over her missing brother who was quite attached to her. She can't rest until he's found so when she learns Brody is heading into Mexico on a lead and the chance that Benjy is there she wants to go. Brody doesn't want her to but when she saves his life he decides he owes it to her. What follows is a journey of death, mean mean nasty people and discovery for both Brody and Olivia. Olivia's fiance' left her a month after her parents were killed saying he could handle her whining and grief. She can't trust love and Brody's never really experienced love of family like Olivia with her big bunch. They make into Mexico and get some information on all the robberies and the missing people including Benjy and barely escape with their lives. Heading back to the Graham ranch in Texas they have to decide what to do about each other, but is the danger really over??? No... If you've read book one in this series, and you should, you come out of it thinking that Olivia is a cold hearted little bitch. In this book you finally get to see why she is the way she is. Olivia or "Liv" wasn't always so cold and hard. The writing is amazing and it's awesome to see a tough but still feminine heroine. 4 out of 5 Modokker Book Pick stars for Brody by Emma Lang.

A hard book to review. The heroine is pushy, bossy and stubborn. The hero is slow to act and lost in his head with all the little details. They are a perfect pair, he needs the kick in the butt she is happy to give and she needs to realise haste is not always the best solution. Brody is a Texas ranger, looking for the gang that steals children, herds, and what ever else they can get to make a buck. Right now he is looking for the killers of Olivia's parents and hopefully to find her very young brother. It is an on the road story, of the two off to Mexico. They fall in love and make love on the trail, meet some bad hombres on the way and bring the trouble home with them. Matthew, Olivia's big brother is quick to see the relationship and helps the loner of a ranger Brody to put his feelings into the three magic words. I just didn't meld with the characters in this book as I had in Matthew, the first book in the series. This is one of those different strokes for different folks kind of book. You may love it. It has all of the things needed to make a great book.

I'm in love and his name is Brody!!!Prickly Graham sister, Olivia, has been left in charge of the younger Graham siblings while head of the family, Matthew and his new wife Hannah spend a few days away from the ranch. Texas Ranger, Brody Armstrong arrives at the ranch during this time with news for Matthew about his investigation into the disappearance of youngest sibling, Benjy. When Brody finds that Matthew is not home, he attempts to leave, but Olivia makes it impossible for Brody to get away without telling her what is going on.Olivia had been very attracted to Ranger Brody, but as the months continued on with no news from the mysterious Texas Ranger about Benjy, who has been stolen from the ranch six months prior, she began to lose faith and trust in him. Brody didn't feel the news was appropriate for Olivia's ears, but after her haranguing him, and against his better judgment, he tells her he has a lead and after investigating a local cabin, he was heading to Mexico to follow up on his lead. Olivia wants to go with Brody, but he quickly forbids it. Her brother, Matthew, good friend to Brody, would kill the Ranger should something happen to Olivia.Brody goes off to investigate the cabin and knows immediately there's a connection to Benjy Graham and several other people's disappearance. When he is about to uncover a clue, he's confronted by the determined Olivia. Brody immediately cuts her down and tries to send her home, but when proves her worth by saving Brody's life, they partner up in the search for Benjy. On their way to Mexico these two argue, bait one another and discover a passion neither can resist. No matter how Brody tries to keep Olivia at arms length, the attraction is too much for him to turn away from. Once in Mexico things quickly become dangerous when they meet aspiring overlord Rodrigo, his beautiful but cunning sister Elena and their cold and calculating mother Lucinda, who is the owner and operator of the local brothel. Olivia will do almost anything to discover the whereabouts of her precious little brother and that creates even more danger when Brody finds that he is a jealous man.Oh how I LOVED this book. While reading the first Circle of Eight book Matthew, I knew Brody was going to be a force to reckon with. Underneath the cool and hard exterior of the Ranger dressed in black there is a heart he tries with all his might to hide from the world. That is until the bossy and overly curious Olivia Graham crosses his path and creates so much chaos, Brody has no idea what to do.After all, Brody is a Texas Ranger and has dedicated his life to his work, he couldn't possibly give in to a woman.Olivia has been cast aside by her ex-fiancee. He got what he wanted from her and then tossed her away after the murder of Olivia's parents and Benjy's kidnapping, and yet she still opens her heart to the brooding Ranger, knowing full well her heart may be broken. I had an extreme dislike for Olivia in Matthew's book. Once Emma Lang redeemed her, I liked her, but still was wary of her character. Until this book. Olivia has matured and even though she is still bossy and over-bearing, she is a woman in her own. No whining for this one. Emma Lang (Beth Williamson) has created a world that I want to get lost in. Watching Brody finally letting down his guard and allowing Olivia under his skin is a wonderful journey I really enjoyed taking.I was lucky enough to snag an ARC of Brody in a Twitter contest that Beth Williamson was running.Brody won't be available to the public until June 26, 2012, but I highly recommend that you pre-order this amazing story. This is definitely one of my favorite books so far this year and Beth/Emma is one of my favorite Western Historical authors. She not only brings humor in the midst of upheaval but she has a complete understanding of what readers like myself enjoy!

This review was posted at Under the CoversWhat can I say? I'm a sucker for a sexy guy in a uniform, whether it's in current times or in the past. Add to that the whole time I was reading this I would picture Len Gunn (the model on the cover) and well.... let me just tell you about the book.In Matthew, the Graham family had been targeted, their youngest sibling Benjamin was kidnapped and their parents were killed. And then came Brody Armstrong, the Texas Ranger who had been researching a series of similar crimes in the area and was now on the trail of what happened to them. Except now that he has a lead to follow, he can't seem to get rid of Olivia Graham.Olivia was in one word feisty. She had a lot of spunk and she was willing to do anything to find her brother. I have to admire her for her courage, first in making Brody have to take her, and second that she was no wilting flower.Brody on the other hand, I expected his roughness and sex appeal. A man of the law, but also a loner, used to getting his way because there's never anyone around to confront him. And when he comes across a woman who does, well, unexpected things happen. =) What can I say? I love a bad boy, and Brody is not necesarily a good boy, so I fell for him pretty damn quick. These two were destined to be together, it was great they didn't really try to fight it much. They perfectly suited for each other in and out of the bedroom. Their banter was funny, their sexual tension was great, and they also worked very well as a team. But ohhhhhhh how I loved how they heated up the sheets. Raw and needy and primal, holding nothing back and ashamed of nothing.Although I guess this is a cowboy series to me it has more of the feel of a good western, with outlaws and rangers, at least from what we've seen so far. And I have to say that I really like that about it. I'm excited already for Caleb's book and to see how the story develops in finding Benjamin. *ARC provided by author

http://illhaveanotherbook.wordpress.com/Wow, where do I start. Honestly one of the most enjoyable books in a long time. I picked it up and had a hard time putting it down (thank goodness I travel a lot for work and can read!). Brody is on the hunt for Benji the missing Graham brother. As he sets out on the trail he is shocked to find out that Olivia Graham followed him and is planning on joining him on his search. He does not want her and hopes to convince her that this is not a place she wants to be. Olivia does not back down and proves time and time again that Brody needs her as a partner. I was hooked on Olivia from the beginning. I will say that I did not like Olivia when she was introduced in the first book, she was a bitch, let’s be honest. But I will admit now that I really like her. Wow, is she a great character. It was great to see the transformation of Olivia from the first book to this one. And Brody, where do I start. The rugged, moody Texas Ranger, he just sounds hot! You knew he was not happy being stuck with Olivia as he searched for her missing brother Benji. The chemistry between them is hot and you can feel that they are into each other. I really enjoyed the steam scenes between them and even their bickering back and forth. Brody is really, really well done. I got hooked in the story within the first chapter and I was glued to the pages. All the additional characters came together to create a really believable story and at the same time making me emotionally interested in the outcome. You really pull for Brody, Olivia and the Graham family.

4.5 StarsAfter reading Matthew I was a bit worried if I would like Olivia or not... Well that was a waste because she kicked ass! She didn't whine, bitch or simper but instead womaned up and gained my respect. The guts she had made her a survivor that thought quick on her feet in her quest to find her brother. Amazing story with an adventure of a plot and well written romance. I didnt know what exactly to expect but the fire between Brody & Liv is red-hot steamy. (They do it dirty, clean, hostaged, drunk, bloody) Definitely a new favorite. Not a complete 5 stars because (view spoiler)[little benjy was NOT found:( That does NOT make me a happy camper. Please don't drag this out just to make him older/ tortured. Just let them all be happy for atleast a couple chapters before somebody tries to kill one of them. (hide spoiler)]Next up is Caleb. He won't sacrifice being a ranger for anyone. Especially for a *gasp*, woman.

This book had absolutely none of the charm of the first book. It wasn't the heat level (which was hotter, but people who liked the first book won't be bothered by that) - it was the fact that it was just, well... often crude. It's like the author said, "This book's themes are way darker so the book has to be crude."I didn't believe the heroine from the beginning and I barely believed her at the end. I almost put this in my DNF but was hoping for a payoff and was still feeling invested in the mystery from book 1.I won't be picking up another book by this author. It just wasn't up my alley.

I think I may have liked this one more than the 1st book of the series. Brody and Olivia have a push/pull relationship that keeps you drawn in and their sex is HOT! I found myself wanting to know more, more, more as I read which is always a good thing. Yes the Benjamin issue grates on my nerves and I honestly feel I can handle only 1 more book before something substantial happens or I'll be annoyed. This book is one however you do not want to miss!

http://smexybooks.com/2012/08/review-...Texas Ranger Brody Armstrong has been investigating the murders and kidnapping of several ranchers but the one that has touched him the most is the kidnapping of Benjamin Graham, the youngest of the Graham children. He’s determined to find out everything he can even if in the end the news is devastating. When his investigation points him toward Mexico, he heads out to the Graham ranch to give Matthew Graham an update only to find out that he and his wife Hannah are not at the ranch. That leaves the next eldest, Olivia Graham in charge. When Olivia presses Brody for information, he hesitates, preferring to deal with Matthew as the man of the house, but Olivia does not give him an out and informs him that while Matthew is away, she is in charge and he can deal with her.Olivia Graham has had to deal with a lot since her parents were murdered and her youngest brother Benjamin was kidnapped. The fact that he has not been found and that she can’t do anything about it weighs heavily on her. When Brody comes to the ranch with information she wants to know what the plan is and she wants to be involved-something Brody shoots down immediately. When Brody leaves, Olivia takes matters into her own hands, following Brody on his trek to Mexico.Brody has many reasons to want to avoid Olivia; she’s certainly not anything like what he’s used to in a woman. She speaks her mind no matter what and she doesn’t take any shit from a man. She’s no wall flower and she makes Brody crazy so he really shouldn’t have been surprised when she showed up right behind him when he arrived at the first stop on his trek to Mexico. When Olivia proves to Brody that she’s no wilting flower, he has no choice but to take her with him into Mexico to flush out the criminals he thinks are responsible for the kidnappings and murders. Together, they hatch an elaborate scheme to explain their presence in Mexico. Taking on the ruse of wanting to go into business with these criminals, they find themselves in more than one sticky situation. As they place themselves in one life or death situation after another, emotions run strong and they seek comfort in each other. Just when they each realize how much they mean to each other, it might be too late.I met Brody in book one, Matthew, and I got the feeling he and Olivia might be paired together. Brody is a Texas Ranger and he’s good at his job. He’s a longer and he is okay with that. But he noticed Olivia Graham back in book one and they turned out to be perfect for each other. Olivia is a fantastic character, especially for this time period-1836. I would imagine that women had to be tough at this time. They worked hard, with no real comforts. Her determination to be a part of the search for her brother Benjamin, while absolutely crazy, fit well with her character. Brody is a tough guy too, but he is clueless when it comes to what it’s like to be in a loving family, even one that’s suffered through terrible loss and still manages to go on. I loved getting Brody’s back story. It explained so much about his character’s personality. While Brody and Olivia quickly begin a physical relationship, Brody keeps himself closed off even when he knows that there is something special about Olivia. Even when his protective instincts kick in, he tries to ignore his feelings. Olivia is completely the opposite; she’s quick to tell Brody how she feels and even then he holds back. In the end, Brody’s reluctance to be honest with Olivia causes another set of problems for the couple. The mystery of Benjamin’s disappearance is handled really well and had me intrigued through the end. In fact, I was totally fooled by one of the characters actions. So much so, that I was completely unprepared for the final conflict. In the end, I really enjoyed Brody’s transformation from a hard, closed and cold man to a man who was willing to embrace a family that so easily accepted him. I do not read historicals as a rule, but these stories have a more contemporary feel only they take place in the early 1800s. Having said that, I love a series that centers on a family, especially one like the Grahams who have such strong family values; who love fiercely and completely. I am really looking forward to seeing how this series plays out!

A Texas Ranger works alone and Brody is no exception. On his own for years has left him a hard man that doesn’t have time to play house with any woman. Working a murder and kidnapping case leads him back to the Circle Eight Ranch and gets him an unlikely ally in Olivia. Wanting to use her for her ability to lure in the human traffickers he suspects have the youngest member of her family, he agrees to have her tag along, briefly. What he doesn’t expect is the depth of long lost emotions she releases in him.Emma Lang has created a monster in me! If you need me I will be voraciously consuming her back list of books because Brody was just really really good! Often times I don’t want to read historical romance. I just can’t get into them, save for a few select books. I often end up labeling them DNF because the time period just doesn’t speak to me. Not once while reading this did I feel bored or annoyed at the stuffiness I often feel in historical books. It may be because it is western and not regency and that I connect more to that time period. Whatever it is, I’m okay with it because Brody was an awesome book.Brody is the local Texas Ranger, faced with the responsibility to find the man responsible for the murders at the Circle Eight Ranch and the kidnapping of the youngest member of the family, a little boy named Benjy. After witnessing the death of his brothers at the hands of war, Brody is a hard man. He knows nothing else then fighting for what is right and bringing criminals to justice. He relies on no one but himself and doesn’t work with a partner…ever. When Brody gets some new information regarding the case he goes to the Circle Eight to tell Matthew (now in charge after his parents murder) but finds Olivia instead. Though he has no time to waste on a woman he finds himself drawn to her. Which he masks with indifference and attitude. Not that she makes it hard. Olivia is a smart mouthed and independent woman who isn’t afraid to say exactly what was on her mind. She doubts his ability to find the men who killed her parents and took her brother so she thinks her best bet is to tag along and help. Completely out of place for a historical…but right on spare for a western. I loved her spunk and attitude and complete fearlessness in harrowing situations. She has deadly aim and when against the wall will rise to meet any enemy head on.Olivia just wants to find her little brother Benjy…at any cost. If that means crossing into the dangerous land of Mexico and looking for human traffickers with the quiet and enigmatic Texas Ranger, well then she will. She doesn’t second guess herself and rarely falls apart. She can play a part to a tee and that makes her invaluable to Brody though he is constantly wanting to ditch her as her mouth keeps getting them into trouble.Brody and Olivia together are a force to be reckoned with. With every hair raising step closer to those who took her brother, they also become closer to giving into the feeling each stirs in the other. Though not a virgin, Olivia has never experienced the wanton feeling Brody manages to elicit out of her at the slightest touch or briefest glance. The combustible emotions make Brody uneasy because having a wife and family is just something he doesn’t have time for or feels he deserves.Filled with more action then I anticipated, Brody was a welcome escape from reality. I rooted for these two the entire journey and found myself wanting to go back and read book one since I had not. The story line seems to be continuing on to the next book because not much was resolved in this one. I was a bit sad about that but I hope that means we will get to see these two again and find out how they are doing.Emma Lang is a talented author and I will definitely be picking up more from her in the future! This family is one you can get behind and I for one can’t wait for book three!I give Brody by Emma Lang 4.75 stars!

Hold on to your britches, this is one rip roaring ride!Olivia will not take no for an answer. If Brody has the answer to where her brother is, she will do whatever it takes to wring it out of him. Even put herself into dangerous situations. As the oldest girl in the family, she has had to be strong. But her heart broke when Benjy was taken from them. She was like his second mother to him and he held a special place in heart. So now that she knows that Brody is hot on the trail to finding him, she is going to help. Olivia is smart, resourceful and cunning and she will use her body, mind and tenacity to find her baby brother.Brody is a singular man. He is alone in the world and he prefers it that way. After witnessing the death of his two brothers, the experience has hardened him and has made him a tougher man. Since he has started working the case of robberies and kidnappings in this Texas community, he has known Olivia Graham was a pain in the ass, but he had no clue. She has stuck herself to him like a burr and he can’t seem to get rid of her. Luckily she has surprised him time and time again and she has proven herself useful in more ways than one. Maybe this partner business is something he should reconsider. From the Circle Eight Ranch to deep into hostile Mexico territories, they have worked side by side. Danger is lurking everywhere, but between the two of them, they will survive. This partnership may not be made in heaven, but it sure does make for some hot steamy desert nights. When I read Matthew, I was intrigued by both Olivia and Brody. Olivia was such an unpleasant character, but she still showed a heart and Brody was a determined and strong Texas Ranger. I was very excited that their story would be next in the series. Let me just say….Ms. Lang did not disappoint!Olivia was amazing. She showed heart, spine and spirit. I was shocked by her actions. Considering this is a historical romance novel and I am so very pleased by her. She stole the whole novel for me. Yes, Brody showed a presence but really it was all Olivia in my book. These two are made for each other and wow do they burn up the pages. Ms. Lang doesn’t waste any time bringing these two together and boy howdy is it hot. Their relationship is rocky yet sexy, their banter is spunky and entertaining and the plot is adventurous and thrilling.I’m not really sure if all the siblings will get their story told, but I’m here for the long haul. The ongoing plot is rather ordinary, but I’m here 100% for the family. My heart goes out to them and I cheer their happiness because life does go on after death and loss. I just hope we don’t have to wait too long for a resolution. The thought of Benjy being out in the world alone, just breaks my heart. The Graham’s are a fascinating family and I can’t wait until they have their justice. Brody is a sexy, exciting ride. Ms. Lang has penned a refreshingly exhilarating adventure that will keep you seated in your saddle and sweating bullets!

Really 4.5 StarsFull Review on http://scorchingbookreviews.blogspot....I discovered Emma Lang through her alter ego Beth Williamson. I was recommended her Historical Cowboys and I loved the lyrical style of her writing. This is a Romantic Western and I loved every second of it. The book is set in the 1800’s so the men are men and the women are housewives. This family have had their lives turned upside down in the most horrific of fashion and now one of their kin is in the hands of some very horrible people. I respected the decision of Olivia to force herself into the investigation; family is the thing you should cherish and protect at all costs. The premise of this whole book worked for me and I found myself lost in the wild-west.Olivia was a woman who no longer gave a crap about what was right and proper. She wanted to find her brother and was more than willing to risk her reputation to do so. She doesn’t balk at any of his suggestions, really appreciated the fact that he knew best and doesn’t take the risk lightly. Yes, she takes her life into her own hands but she does it with her eyes wide open. I loved her spunky attitude and strength of conviction; she is the type of heroine that grabs me. She wasn’t stupid or naive; she was just a big sister. She makes some decisions that, when she dissects them later, make her shake, cry and vomit but at the time they are necessary. When the sparks become too much, she walks into a sexual relationship fully aware of all the consequences but realising that she needs to grab her happiness where she can. I enjoy intelligence and Olivia is certainly that.Brody is just hot. He’s a bad ass Ranger who wants to do his job, sleep with prostitutes who expect him to leave and just stay alive. He has a traumatic past, making his career path perfect for him, but Ms Olivia threatens to destabilise his normal completely. He doesn’t want to feel for her, and is actually quite terrified for her safety, but he can’t deny the saucy thoughts that keep clouding his mind. I loved the fact he was willing to go all the way to Mexico to try to rescue the little boy but I loved the way he was with Olivia even more. He didn’t truly start to appreciate her until she proved her worth on the mission, when he realised that she wouldn’t be a burden. I loved that he respected her strength and her presence; that these were the qualities were what made him fall in love with her! I adore a man who isn’t an Alpha-hole.This was not your average sweet Western. The action was high octane, the bad guys were creepy and the sex was off the charts steamy....these were not a couple that were shy in seeking their pleasure. The Hero was strong enough to respect his woman and the Heroine was strong enough to hold her own; it’s a fantastic trip back to the Wild Wild West....

"The Circle Eight" historical western romance series continues with Book Two, "Brody" by Emma Lang. Hotter than a habanero, and a thrill-a-minute action adventure to boot, "Brody" is a very intense romance read. We were first introduced to the characters of Brody Armstrong and Olivia Graham in "Matthew", Book One in the series. Brody is a hard-edged, tougher-than-nails Texas Ranger. Olivia met Brody when he began investigating the murders of her parents and the kidnapping of her youngest brother, Benjy. Being the oldest sister in the Graham family, Olivia is very protective and managerial toward her siblings. Naturally strong-willed and keenly intelligent, Olivia is unlike any woman Brody has ever met, and she turns him upside down and inside out. He has a similar effect on her, and the sparks between them are fiery and passionate. When Brody uncovers a clue to Benjy's disappearance, he goes to the Graham ranch to speak with the oldest brother, Matt. Since Matt and the other Graham brothers are away at the time, Olivia demands to be informed of Brody's findings. Determined to follow Brody in his search for Benjy, Olivia persists in pursuing the reluctant ranger until she wears him down and he takes her along in the investigation. These two are more than match for each other, and they bluff, bicker, and bluster their way through one adventure after another in their quest to bring down the evil gang that murdered the Grahams and stole little Benjy. The more they fight and finagle, the more the attraction between them grows, and soon their hearts become involved. Each of them has personal issues which cause them to think they are not worthy of being loved and having a lasting relationship, and neither is sure that they could have a future together. As the investigation intensifies, and Brody and Olivia are pulled deeper and deeper into a world of danger, can love find its way? Can the pervasive and powerful evil which killed families like the Grahams and stole away little children to be sold for hideous purposes finally be stopped? Will the youngest Graham return to the Circle Eight? Author Emma Lang is sure to captivate fans of historical western romance who love "heat with heart"! Review Copy Gratis Kensington Books

Originally reviewed at My Devastating Reads. So not too long ago, I started the Circle Eight series by Emma Lang and was impressed. I recently had the pleasure of returning to the series, and book two, Brody was not a disappointment. I so want to binge read this series, but I never have the time to binge read anymore. But I so would if I could! This novel continues the search for young Benjy, one of the younger children in the Graham family that has gone missing. The hole his disappearance created in the family was felt in the first novel, and it's the focus of Liv's romance with Brody, the hot Texas Ranger who is searching for her young lost brother. Liv refuses to let Brody search for her brother on his own, intent on joining him and the two are thrown together when Brody realizes that Liv is made of tough stuff and makes her his partner. He later regrets making Liv his partner, but Liv is not an easy woman to get rid of, and while Liv drives Brody crazy, it's a good crazy as the sparks between them fly during arguments and whilst they get down and dirty on the trail. I have to say, the passion these two have made for great reading. I was never bored, whether they were in the middle of Mexico in the clutches of evil mad people (for there was more than one) or whether they were fighting or kissing. This story was quick paced, filled with passion and danger and romance and it kept me turning the pages as fast as I could. I've never read a book where the characters are both so passionate, both so ornery and quick tempered. It was a heart pounding, sexy read and I couldn't get enough of the action and sizzle in this novel. If you are looking for something hot and sexy, or something filled with action, this is the tale for you. I might just have to binge a little when it comes to this series, and hopefully sooner rather than later.

I just love it when mysterious characters from one book finally get their own stories. Brody, the title character here, was just such a character in Lang’s previous book, Matthew, which strained credulity. Fortunately, Brody is written more closely to the standards of the gritty Wild West and is much more enjoyable.Brody is a man in black, a Texas Ranger who helped Matthew track and defeat the bad guy in the previous book. He’s short on words and large of heart, and has a scar on his chin. As the saying goes, what’s not to like?At the end of the last book, Brody had found a lead to where Matthew’s youngest brother might have been taken after he was kidnapped. Brody intends to follow the lead and stops by Matthew’s ranch to tell him where he’s going. Matthew isn’t home, however, having gone on a trip with his new wife.Olivia, Matthew’s forceful and outspoken sister, has long admired Brody, especially since he’s an excellent tracker. When she learns he’s going to hunt for her brother, she decides to go with him, much to Brody’s chagrin. As he tells her, he works alone, always. But Olivia doesn’t take no for an answer, and catches up with Brody and browbeats him into taking her with him. Her brother Benjy would much rather see her face when he’s rescued than the forbidding, but handsome Brody’s. After she saves him from a bad guy’s attack, grudgingly, Brody takes her with him across the Rio Grande into Mexico and danger. There they meet a minor war lord who is itching to become a bigger player. Keeping the persistent Olivia safe becomes harder and harder as the war lord takes a fancy to her, especially since Brody reluctantly realizes he’s attracted to her himself.Read the rest of my review at AAR: http://www.likesbooks.com/cgi-bin/boo...

You can read this review and more at Forever Book Lover. This is the second in The Circle of Eight series, I recommend you read each one in order so you can follow the Graham family's story. If you haven't read the first in the series, I am worried that I will reveal to much in this one... so fair warning this may contain **Spoilers**..The Graham family is still trying to rebound from the tragic deaths of their parents and the kidnapping of their youngest brother, Benjy. Brody is a Texas Ranger helping them with the investigation. Oliva, is the oldest sister and has taken the loss of Benjy personally. When a new clue in the investigation is discovered, Olivia is determined and adamant that is going with him.Wheww!! Talk about heating up the pages, Brody does that and more.. who wouldn't love a man with broad shoulders, skinny waist who looks yummy in tight jeans??... Olivia, is a strong willed, no holds bar woman who doesn't take no for an answer. These two argue, banter and their chemistry is a slow sizzle waiting to explode. The more they fight the more their sexual tension builds and builds to the point ... the final combustion quite explosive! This story is darker than the first. Brody and Olivia are drawn into a very dangerous adventure. It kept me on pins and needles wondering what will happen next and how this will all play out in the end..This is a very intense book and I loved every page of it... If you want to know if the Benjy finds his way home, don't miss this latest installment in The Circle of Eight...I can't wait to see what is next for the Graham family... Emma Lang has spun a tale of strong family ties that is unbreakable.

Posted on Romancing the Books blogReviewed by JenReview Copy from the AuthorHoly moly. Brody by Emma Lang was one heck of a roller coaster ride. This tale continues a plot line that began in the first book of the Circle Eight series, Matthew. Ms Lang takes the reader on an adventure through Texas and Mexico and Brody and Olivia search for her missing brother, Benjy.Brody is a Texas Ranger who after meeting the Graham family decides to do some investigating into Benjy’s disappearance. When Olivia finds out what Brody is up to, she decides she’s going to help him whether he wants it or not. And it doesn’t take long before sparks are flying between the two of them.I’ll be honest. I actually liked Olivia more than Brody. She had to grow up way sooner than anyone would like when her parents died and she ended up taking over the care of her younger siblings. I wasn’t a huge fan of hers during Matthew, but she really blossomed and grew as her story was told. She’s a strong woman who knows what she wants and just goes after it.Brody on the other hand was weaker than I would have expected of a Texas Ranger. I kept waiting for him to stand up to Olivia and be a man, but he kept deferring to Olivia and then having to mop up after her blundering. Not that she was inept, just inexperienced. At any rate, I just wish Brody had been more alpha male. That said, I really enjoy this book. The story was fast paced and action filled. The sex was smokin’ hot. The hunt for Benjy advances with this installment of the series. I can’t wait to read Caleb to see what is going to happen next with this family.

Olivia is pushy, bossy, stubborn hasty in making decisions that leads to trouble, and kind of a b*tch. But throughout the book she's forced to make tough choices, including killing, to save Brody's and her life. Brody is her voice of reason. The one who makes her think about the decisions she's making. She doesn't usually listen, but he's there to reign her in when needed. This book was about their adventures to Mexico to find Benjy, Liv's kidnapped youngest brother. This was a fast paced read that left you on the edge of your seat. Lots of twists and turns made this a great book. You can connect with the heartache Liv experiences when they can't find Benjy. Great read with some hot romance.

Although at times combustible, Brody and Olivia were a couple made for each other. At first, I thought Olivia was too independent and feisty, not quite in character for the time period, but I grew to like her spirit. And Brody, well, I thought he was delicious from the get go in Matthew's story. I loved their verbal wrangling and their white-hot sexual attraction. The plot was quick and entertaining; with all the riding in and out of Mexico in their quest for little Benji, dodging bad guys/gals and bullets, they quickly learned to appreciate, respect, and fall in love with one another in very intense situations. It was all non-stop action and especially romantic towards the ending. This is a fine example of exciting storytelling, and I enthusiastically give it four stars.

So much emotion in this western historical by Emma Lang.Olivia is looking for her brother, who has been missing since her parents were killed and when Ranger Brody comes along and is going to go look for him, she's going, come hell or high water. He doesn't want her along, but knows that he can't really stop her. They are in for some adventures, both good and bad.Of course there are some feelings involved. Lust being one of them. I enjoyed this book, was scared at times for both of them. Was happy for them that they figured out they were meant to be together. Thanks Emma for an Awesome read.

Second book in the Circle Eight series and I have to admit, I can NOT wait until Caleb, the third in the series, comes out. This one was a little tougher to read because as a mother, anything that has to do with harming children gets too close to home. Although nothing was actually done in the book, it does have a backdrop story that hints of a harsher reality. We shall have to see what Benjy's story will be, but that will probably be the last story, to see how nitty gritty Emma Lang gets with her story telling. Other then that back story, I LOVE this series and encourage anyone looking for a western to pick her up. It is a quick and easy read.

Now, you see two stars, but that didn't mean I didn't enjoy it. I think my guilty pleasures are historical westerns. Is the book written well? It's okay. I thought Olivia was a bit too perfect a lot of the times. And Brody was alright I guess. The story was engaging and westerny which is what I was looking for. I think I liked Matthew a bit more, but the series isn't horrible. It's a nice break from all the regency :)

I enjoyed Matthew‘s story in book 1. I gave it 3 stars. I hesitated reading book 2, but I needed to know what happened to Jeb, Margaret & the murder investigation. I was even interested in Matt’s sister Olivia. Olivia appeared to be mean and bitter, but she is really heartbroken & determined. She meets her match with Brody! Brody was exciting, funny, adventurous & finally romantic! (so was the book) Brody is the best romantic western I've read since Catherine Anderson’s Comanche Moon.

This is a gritty, erotic western with a self-determined heroine I liked. I didn't like the quest-plot that didn't conclude at novel's end at all but given it's part of a series, I suspect this is intentional to hook readers for the series (a tactic I'm not fond of.) Still, it isn't a terrible book and if readers are looking for an erotic western romance then this will hit the spot.
