Soul Mates by Sandy Wolters offered a completely different take on the typical “soul mates” story. I was afraid the future and past parts of this story would become too tangled and steal from the actual story. Boy, was I wrong. Ms. Wolters did a great job at juggling so much that could be confusing, instead making it not only understandable, but fun and exciting. Shannon was a sweet, insightful beautiful 6 year old in 1323 Ireland. During a clan celebration she spies the chieftain’s young son. It doesn't matter that they never actually speak or that they are clearly children, there was an unexplainable connection. On her way home that very day Shandelle was killed in an accident. Although, Donovan never knew her name or that she was made for him, he spent the rest of his days searching for a missing part of him.Shandelle and Ian are so in love you can actually feel it in the air when you are around them. Ian cannot believe his luck. He has no idea what he did to deserve such a beautiful woman, both inside and out, but he knows that he will do everything in his power to make her life a happy one. What he doesn't know is there are evil forces lurking to separate the couple and his job of keeping her safe and happy is about to get a whole lot harder. The idea behind this story is that soul mates spend the ages searching for the other and that even when the one dies they will find the other in another life. Shannon died before her and Donovan could have any kind of relationship, yet since he saw her a piece of him was always missing. Therefore, he spent his entire life searching for that piece, not knowing what it is. A very powerful wizard finally tells Donovan that he is searching for his soul mate and that she has died many years before. However, he tells Donovan that she is many years in the future living a very happy existence with his future self and that he can help Donovan go into the future and steal the woman back. Donovan is crazed enough grab onto this opportunity. Thus, begins this story of obsession, deceit, a bit of dark magic, friendship and true love.“My life changed that night. I became whole. I never realized a part of me had been missing before that moment.”When I started the book I have to admit I was taken aback by the gooey love that Ian and Shandelle had. As you read on you get the idea as to why Ms. Wolters is so over the top with the love this couple shares. If you like anything even close to fantasy you’ll love this book. *Warning: this story contains a very disturbing rape scene. It’s not the typical violent rape. It’s more mentally disturbing or at least it was for me.*I would like to thank Sandy Wolters for the loan of this book in exchange for my honest review. You can find this review and others at http://riverinaromantics.blogspot.com and http://tinar1121.blogspot.com.

I really like this book. I have always been a great fan of time travel romance. I was curious to see how switching from the past to the future and back again and again would turn out but I have to say it really works well. I loved the idea of eternal soul mates that will find each other time and time again. The love between Ian and Shandelle is so beautiful and powerful and you will definitely fall in love with those two characters. I was glad Aengus, who whe met at the beginning of the story, is there for Shandelle when she is taken back to 1323 by Donovan and helps her see the truth. Eventhough Donovan did not deserve to have Shandelle I did feel bad for him. You could feel his despair at missing that one important part of himself, his soul mate. But it was not meant to be for him. So that said, the story is really well written and easy to read and I am definitely looking forward to reading more books by this author.

This book had me from the very first page . The way the author uses Ireland and Phoenix as the back drops for this tale of long lost love and what a couple will do. Shandelle and Ian are. So much in love . They are destined to be together. But there is a twist . They are soul mates and in a different time and era . She is the love of Donavan. Her name being Shannon . The worlds collide and only Ian an save his true and only love . This was a great and fast read . With loads f love and makes you want to find your own soul mate . I reccommend this book for your summer reading list

My Rating: ❤❤❤½GOOD: The characteristics of a 3 heart book include: interesting characters, a decent storyline, and unique story elements; there was something about the story that I didn’t completely connect with; the book is a solid read. Initial Reaction: A dark and compelling romantic tale that was bitter and sweet at the same time. I had a hard time determining my feelings about the story. Rating's Breakdown: Quality of writing: SuperbPace: VigorousCharacters: Captivating and uniquePlot development: Excellent. Unique twists and turns.Story line: Potent. Engaging. Candid. Enjoyability: This one is a bit harder to classify. Read "My Thoughts" for additional details. My Thoughts:This book was provided by the author for an honest review. My emotions were all over the map while reading Soul Mates. Wolters does a wonderful job crafting a time-travel type story with elements of the past and present woven seamlessly throughout it. Quick Story Snapshot...The story begins in the past when we first meet a six-year old Shannon in fourteenth century Ireland. She is ecstatic because the day happens to be her birthday and a lively festival at the castle. On her way return to the castle, she sees a wild rose that catches her attention. Shannon doesn't understand but feels that the rose will be significant to her in some way. After picking the flower she clutches it close to her heart. Upon her arrival at the castle, she sees smiling and laughing people but then stumbles on unfamiliar men...dangerous and angry looking men...in the castle's inner courtyard. In her distress, Shannon clutches the protective amulet around her neck and begins to put some distance between herself and the men. But, she stops when her attention is drawn to one of the men who is surrounded by an air of sadness. Making her way to him, she touches his life with her sweetness and light and makes an indelible mark him. Sadly, Shannon's life is quickly extinguished and her death causes a ripple effect through history, changing the course of several lives. What I Liked...Wolters did an excellent job creating a story that was sweet, interesting, and evocative. The characters were well thought out and their motives were crystal clear. I loved the relationship dynamic between Ian and Shandelle. She changed Ian's life for the better and he became a better man because of her presence. You read that and you felt that in how he poured his love out to her. I really admired the concurrent and orderly time transitions in the story. It was always clear to the reader what time period they were reading in. I have read some time-travel books where the periods were all muddled together and the reader had to slowly muddle through to determine whether they were in the present or the past. That was certainly not the case with Soul Mates. And being a lover of deeply romantic tales, I enjoyed the fact that love did, in fact, conquer all and good overcomes evil. Ian and Shandelle acquired a happily ever after, even after some very harrowing events. What I Didn't Like...*Sigh*I was absolutely thrilled when Ms. Wolters contacted me to ask if I would review this book. I so thoroughly enjoyed her Maggie Mae that I jumped at the chance to read Soul Mates. Soul Mates started off really well; however, I started to grind my teeth at about 55% on my Kindle. Please do not click on the spoiler if you truly do not want to know what I'm going to say next. I will attempt to not spoil the whole story with what I will say but it does contain spoiler-y type details. (view spoiler)[This portion in the story deals with Shandelle's pre-meditated abduction and rape by someone connected to her in the 14th century. Rape is a very sensitive subject and I just was not expecting to read about it in a story about soul mates. I was hoping against hope that the individual's plans would be thwarted by Ian and Shandelle's friends but sadly she was abducted and subsequently raped. The rape was not vicious because the individual was doing it out of, what he thought, was love. I won't provide any additional details around the event because it will spoil the story if I do. But, the rape and abduction soured the story a bit for me. I understand Wolters' motives behind it and she allowed that component to play out gently but it was hard to read. (view spoiler)[ (hide spoiler)] (hide spoiler)] I almost stopped reading at that point but pressed on until the end. The story's conclusion did make things better for me when I saw how Ian and Shandelle handled the situation. He was so sweet and loving to Shandelle and she was so open and forgiving that their collective good outshone the bad that happened to her. Deep Cleansing BreathMs. Wolters handled a difficult subject matter with decency and class. She crafted a story that was engaging, touching, and deeply romantic. It contained many of the elements I appreciate in my romantic fiction thus creating an enjoyable read overall.Visit The BookChick Blog ["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>

"Simply Captivating"My husband has read four books written by Author Sandy Wolters. He has liked all her books because they are well written and story lines are easy to follow. I asked him today, "Give me two words about Sandy's book." He said it in one word, "Captivating." Being that I just finished reading this story, I agree. This story, "Soul Mates" begins in the year 1303 in Ireland. It's February 1st, a time to celebrate spring, and six-year old Shannon O'Brien is also celebrating her birthday. She's anxious to see her 10-year old best friend, Donovan, who is the clan leader's son. Though she is only six, she has a special attachment to this handsome boy. She's distracted by a man who she senses has much sadness, anger, and hurt. Little Shannon has a gift of reading such vibes and also seeks to make people happy. She gifts Aengus Doyle a red rose and soon his tension leaves his body and soul and is replaced with warmth and love. He feels she must be an angel sent from heaven. She also gives him a pouch containing her amulet to help keep him safe. Shannon will live in his heart forever. Now, in 2013, Phoenix, Arizona, Ian Brennan has Shandelle Walker to love. He never thought he would meet such a woman as her who has made him into a different man. He feels his life is full and complete because of the love she has for him. She is even the first person in his life who didn't want his money ... she only wants his love. This novel shifts back to the 1300's Ireland and back to the present day frequently. But one has no problem following the story line in either timeframe. This book is magical, literally, with sorcery, magic, and time travel. It is very captivating, the writing is smooth and moves right along. It's what every romantic wants to read: how true love never dies. Highly recommend.

Throughout time, the thoughts of finding one’s soul mate have been in everyone’s dreams. Think about finding that soul, that one true love time after time in different ages. Sandy Wolters’ has woven a tale of romance through the ages. Love lost, love gained, but the binds of that spark remain strong through out.Shandelle and Ian have known each other through the ages. A plot that began in the 1300s unfolds in the present day. Time travel, secret heros, a Irish chieftain, an evil wizard are woven into a story that is gripping and extremely hard to put down! This was really a quick read, but Ms. Wolters’s style has one entering the world of Shandelle/ Shannon and Ian/ Donovan. The tenderness and love these characters feel for each other is compelling and you find yourself spell bound as the past and present come together. A great afternoon of reading pleasure.

This is not a genre of book I usually enjoy but this book had me hooked from the first paragraph. It took all my effort to put it down and get anything done. If it wasn't for the evil looks I was getting then no-one would have been fed.Yes there are sexual situations in there but they are tastefully done and shouldn't deter anyone from reading this book. The movement between the present time and the past flows without effort and is very easy to follow. The dialogue is extremely well written and allows you to observe the characters and imagine yourself as a fly on the wall.It is very well written and I can't remember any spelling or grammatical errors, so if there were any then they were so insignificant that they didn't detract from the story.Am looking forward to reading more from this author. Well done!

"In the beginning of time, one soul splits into two. Lifetime after lifetime, the two souls are reborn and seek to reunite." And with that in mind, Sandy hooked me from the very first page. I loved reading about 14th century Ireland and I loved how easily she transitioned from that time period to present day Arizona. I won't give any spoilers, but I will say if you like time travel romance, and wizardly magic, you will love Soul Mates. Sandy's writing is, as always, smooth and seemingly effortless. She switches from past to present with ease, and I found myself looking forward to each new passage in time. If you've never read a Sandy Wolter's novel, this is a great place to start. And once you finish Soul Mates, you'll be looking for more stories by Sandy. She never disappoints.

The story of Shandelle and Ian begins back in Ireland in 1323. Two people bound by the invisible ties of a love so strong, even time cannot break it. The story line touches on not only enduring love, but friendship, courage and strength exhibited by those who valiantly fight evil. The journey from 1323 to present day Phoenix, Arizona is written to perfection. Switching between the two diverse ages is a challenge for any writer, but Sandy Wolters pulls it off with remarkable clarity.Time may have separated them during the centuries, so now that Shandelle and Ian have found each other again, the sparks ignite! If you are looking for a romantic escape that is tinged with time travel, drama, excitement and paranormal, then I highly recommend this book!

This book had a little bit of everything. Magic, suspense, time travel, romance, and some tasteful erotic scenes.I think I could have been a little bit longer with a glimpse of the future for Ian and Shanndelle but altogether it was a really good book.

What do time travel, highlander, billionaire, and witches all have in common? Description:Pulled Back Through Time, Shandelle Is Caught Between An Enduring Love And A Wizard’s MagicIn the beginning of time, one soul splits into two. Lifetime after lifetime, the two souls are reborn and seek to reunite. Like a beacon of light from heaven above, their light shines for each other. Without the other, there is only darkness. How were they to know that the death of a six-year-old girl in the early fourteenth century could have such grave consequences on their lives today?*****Given the book by the author in exchange for an honest review******My Thoughts:I have to start off by saying Time Travel is normally not my thing however when it involves sexy highlanders I tend to make exceptions:) I am really torn regarding this book, I loved 75% of it especially the Ian/Shadelle story line. I also enjoyed the beginning of Donovan's story when Shannon was young and she met Aegnus. I love Aegnus's character and would love to read more about him. I enjoyed Shandelle's friendship with her girls and the interaction between them. Sandy Wolters did a fine job creating characters which the reader could relate. Where she lost me was mostly with Donovan...hated him!! I wasn't sure if he was a bad guy or a good guy who lost his way or what. He betrayed his people by being so selfish he couldn't get past himself. He had no consideration for anyone's feelings but his own..he actually reminded me of a petulant 4 year old. I also couldn't figure out the reason for a couple of the characters as they didn't add anything to the story. Taylor being one and Niall being the other. But perhaps if this novel turns into a series light will be shed on SW's reasons. There are 2 things that I know some of my fellow reviewers had a hard time with because they stretched their limits of acceptable. I didn't really have an issue with either of these things. However, I was a bit put out when the intimacy continued over a 2 month span. Connected to this I couldn't figure out why Ian was not more upset about it. So how does one rate a book with a 75/25 split? I have been mulling this over for a few days. I liked the interaction between characters, I liked part one of the book, I liked the original protagonists. I didn't like the "villian" and there were a few other quirks I mentioned above but over all I think it was a good story and I thing people who enjoy time travel novels will really enjoy it. Therefore I rate this a 3.5 star read and a recommendation to people who love time travel books to pick this up. Sandy Wolters is an up and coming author with a big future ahead of her. **You can find more reviews by t'irla at tirlastalk.blogspot.ca** READ RATE REVIEW your opinion counts!
