I love sci-fi adventures and this book did not disappoint. I would describe it as a cross between Firefly and Star Trek. The character development is very good and I enjoyed the intergalactic plot. Paelae and Lemise grew up in very different worlds and were thrown together unexpectedly while fighting a very advanced enemy. I won't give away too much of the story but you will enjoy the page turning suspense and the ending!

Wow!  What a fantastic sci-fi experience!  This author has real talent for writing science fiction. I'm delighted to have had the opportunity to read this engaging story where the main characters possess impressive, strong qualities.  I will admit the start was confusing; it was as if I were the one transported aboard an alien starship, surrounded by hostile strangers.  I found it frustrating being ignorant of the crisis underway and unsure of character and world identities―so many names thrown at me in a short period, some very similar (Gabreal, Gabre, Sabre, Galeon, Paelae.)  But it was worth trudging through this initial confusion and uncertainty.  As the story progressed, flashbacks and surprise details weaved together into a dynamic story. Ultimately, a team of unlikely allies unite, bent on saving the world from destruction. Arcadia is a wild adventure for si-fi lovers, guaranteed!

My review of Arcadia. Yesterday, I posted the background story of Arcadia. Today is my actual review of this five star book by Hope Christine. I was given a copy for my honest review. I found her story, The combining of two Alien species to save the junk world of Arcadia from destruction. Whenever two different species join forces, there is always the clash of cultures and it is event in the story. Arcadia, a world built of other species junk is the focal point of the story with the two main characters having their own personal and mental demons to add to the fire. The Alien Paelae tried her best to save other species under attack and facing destruction joins The Arcadians trying once again to save this world from destruction. Leemis, the Arcadian leader reluctantly accepts her help but knows she has failed on every other effort to save other species against those that sought to destroy all other living species in the known galaxies. Here is an excerpt from the book, I thought you might enjoy reading.Officers stumbled over each other in preparation for the day ahead. As soon as the first rays of purple sunshine peaked over the city, a line had started to form for the bathrooms, and Paelae was thrust back into the world of the living with a jolt. Sweat covered her face, and her breathing was too rapid.

While the story was a pretty good sci-fi plot, there were a few things that bothered me with this book. First, the numerous proofreading errors throughout, combined with a semi-inconsistent format distracted me from the story almost as much as the plentiful flashbacks did. Secondly, the mixture of steampunk and sci-fi was an interesting choice, but I felt it could have been more integrated than just a surface-level "steampunk look" that felt like an afterthought during the intense, sci-fi action scenes. Finally, I was somewhat drawn to the handful of main characters, but I felt like I had no idea of their motivations or desires. This also meant that I had a really difficult time figuring out why there was a war in the first place, since it was unclear what the motivation of either side truly was for fighting at all other than for the sake of having a conflict to drive the plot.Overall, this seemed like a solid effort that could really benefit from a thorough proofreading and perhaps some additional details incorporated into its narrative to provide a more complete base on which to launch "The Wonderlust Chronicles".

I really liked the story in Arcadia. The characters are interesting and the plot is not just a repeat of all the other science fiction stories out there. I would have given the book a higher rating if it hadn't been for all the errors. Perhaps it's just that I have a proof copy, but this book seriously needs a good editor, or at the least a proofreader. There are a couple places where whole paragraphs are repeated. The grammar/spelling is so bad that it makes it hard to read in some places (possessive s vs plural s was a problem throughout and the wrong words used in some cases). Because Christine gives glimpses of the main character's past throughout the novel, it's not until much later in the book that the reader is able to start to understand what's going on and the sequence of what has already happened. Even so, the story is compelling and ends with me wanting to read more - the next book in the series. I do hope there is a Wonderlust Chronicles #2. Please, please just get a good editor before going to print.

O.O let me blink my eyes again...nope it is true! 1,000+ pages long. If the synopsis caught my attention, which it did, I'd say bring it on haha. I think this sounds interesting and space travel is nice in books. Can't wait!

Ever since Sky Captain Lemise Holdif was a boy, he's been faced with the End of Days. For decades, an unknown enemy has been systematically wiping out life in the galaxy, starting with the most advanced societies. Now Arcadia, a world built from the trash of an entire galaxy, is the only planet left capable of distant space travel, and the next target. Lemise is desperate to save his home world, but his plans are interrupted when an alien visitor transports onto his ship.Lead Specialist Paelae Madison is the last of her kind. The only survivor of the First Attack, and bent on revenge for the destruction of her people. In desperation, she teleports onto an Arcadian ship and offers aid in the coming war. Arcadia sees her as a hero but Lemise is weary to trust a stranger who's survived over five hundred previous battles.Together, the two fight to defeat an enemy far more advanced and far more cunning than Arcadia has ever known. But extinction lurks around every corner and the Enemy isn't the only one threatening to destroy the world. The premise of this book was amazing. It was highly original and thought out. It will intrigue young and old alike, especially those fans of the Star Trek world. Hope's character development was wonderful as was her world building. She did a great job of bringing the world of Lemise and Paelae (I love that name by the way!) and Arcadia to life right before your eyes. The intergalactic travel was intriguing as well. The way she portrayed the different upbringings of Lemise and Paelae specifically was great. I also really liked how she made sure to illustrate the fact that thoughts of revenge can be a two edged sword and can hurt you just as easily as the person you're after. All in all, a great read! I did have some issues with the editing of this book. There were a few places where a paragraph+ would repeat. Sometimes it would repeat immediately and sometimes it would be a page or two later. That really threw me off and made settling into the story difficult. There were also several editing errors ('patients' instead of 'patience' for example) that I noticed which hindered settling in as well. These may be just because I received a proof/ARC copy. But maybe for book 2 (and beyond?) give it an extra once-over/edit before submitting the final copy?Like I said, great read! I can't wait to see where Lemise and Paelae's adventures take them next!*In exchange for an honest review, I received an ARC through a Goodreads First-Reads giveaway*
