plastic man 80 page giant 2004 1 Reviews
In 1971, I read half these stories reprinted in a 64-page, 25 cent newsstand issue of DC Special that was a favorite of all time in that it turned me on to the cartoon genius slapstick of Jack Cole's work, as in the first two stories here. I never could find the earlier 1960s revival, whose first issue appears here w art by the great Gil Kane; not so good, but, still, Gil Kane. It's that "camp" humor of the Batman tv show, and it doesn't work as well as Cole's 1940's rubberized antics. 1975 work by Ramona Fradon is much better. And the initial Dial H for Hero appearance of Plastic man is here, just plain odd, but some charming Jim Mooney art. Again, this works because of the two Jack Cole written and drawn origin stories, pure gold. Finally, this is from the back issue bargain bin at the local comics shop I have visited since 1975, not the Kindle electronic version, under review. I tried to correct Goodreads as a Goodreads Librarian should, but, Lo! Goodreads kicked the correction back; some bug up their hind quarter about comic books not being books, even a square bound special edition on nicer paper, with an ISBN. This geeky metadata is evolving, too slowly.Recommended.
