a mask a marquess and a wish upon a christmas star be careful what you wish for book 1 Reviews
A Mask, A Marquess, and a Wish Upon a Christmas Star by Ingrid Hahn is the First book in the "Be Careful What You Wish For". This is the story of Abigail Sutton and Percival John Benedict Walter, Viscount Tremont, the Marquess of Harland.Abigail is a lady's maid that went to a mascaraed ball looking for a man who she hasn't seen in awhile thinking he would be the perfect husband for her. Abigail happens to meet Harland there and he is smitten with her. Abigail knows that she can only have tonight and when Harland asks for the night she agrees but leaves before he wakes. Now Harland is out to find her. This was such a sweet story with a Cinderella feel to it. Just loved it!!!
Abigail was there to find the man she knew she wanted to spend her life with. She wasn't asking for much, just a happy life with a man she can call her own. Circumstances brought them apart, and finally, they had the chance to meet. With Abigail status as a lady's companion, the mask ball was the only chance for her to step into society, unknown, and met him.A larger than life man, which Abigail knew, but pretended not to, as per rule of the mask ball, offered to help her look for said man. But, once Abigail's hope was dashed by his non-appearance, she decided to leave. And of course the helpful man couldn't let that happen. He was smitten by her you see. After some thought, Abigail agreed to stay until sunrise.A game they played led to the biggest decision in Abigail's life. But, she knew she couldn't stay even though she wanted to. How far apart their life were. She was a nobody while he...Waking up finding the woman he knew was the one wasn't there, almost broke him. He had to find her but, could he when the mask obscured her face. Love was a funny thing. Because he knew that mouth, he remembered that hair and he would stop at nothing to make her his.I'm seeing the perk of novella. It may be short but, because of that, the writer waste no space on menial stuff. It was short, sweet, compact and straight to the point. Characters development was enough so that readers know their background and at the same time not annoyed by them. imagine if this was a novel, I may end up hating one or both of them.
A short, charming regency novella about a lady's companion called Abigail who gatecrashes the Marquess of Harland's annual Christmas masquerade ball to meet a young man named Edward. She wasn't in love with Edward but she had known him for a long time and thought that he was the best husband candidate for a woman in her social position. Fortunately for Abigail, she doesn't find Edward but encounters the sexy H, the marquess himself. There's a bit of insta-lust/insta-love that leads to:"Slam bam Run away ma'am ..."Abigail never took off her mask during the night of passion with the H because she didn't want him to recognize her as the gamekeeper's daughter. In fewer than 24 hours, however, they meet again and the H declares publicly, to all invited guests at his aunt's home, that he has finally found his heart and true love. It was sweet. Abigail's insecurity makes her decline his initial marriage proposal but he persists by telling her how much he loves her and then she accepts. There's a short epilogue with them making love in the barn where they're interrupted by the sound of a kitten meowing. The pregnant Abigail gets a cat to replace the one who had died recently and the H comes to the realization that a man can indeed have a cat as a pet ( apparently when he was a little boy his stern father had told him that men were manly and should have big dogs as pets. This had been very sad for the little boy who had found a kitten that he had been unable to keep). This was cute, light and full of joy and splendor - in keeping with the atmosphere of the Christmas season I suppose.
Is Christmas not a magical time of year? Can a holiday gala that has become dated and debauched offer a unique surprise for an independent miss and a jaded marquess? This enchanting novella, that also gives a nod to the Cinderella tale, will surely delight and entertain you with its engaging storyline and sensual intimacy. You will be drawn into the story of Abigail, a young woman alone in the world trying to make her way, and Harland, a marquess who has defied the marriage state because of his disappointment with his shamefully overindulged aristocratic peers. Share the pleasure of these two charming people discovering love and happiness before the Christmas holidays end.
