Captain's Purr Reviews
Oh, the illustrations of Captain the cat are fabulous. I loved them. The cat is depicted so accurately, well, except for a couple of the flights of fancy activities toward the end of the story. And I just loved the illustrations of everything in the story.I’m thinking the narrator is a child, talking about the family cat, Captain. Captain sleeps, and washes himself, and eats, and purrs, and in the evening when he goes out and is not with the narrator, the narrator also says a couple more things that Captain does before he goes home to sleep on the narrator’s bed. Delightful! There are very few words and the story is appropriate for the youngest child, but older children and cat lovers of all ages are likely to enjoy this book. The illustrations: 5 stars, the story: 3 stars, at least for the very young, perhaps 2 stars for someone who wants a more complex story, but the illustrations are outstanding.
A nice, sweet story with lovely watercolors.
I picked this up for a first day of school activity and the pictures are beyond cute. It looks just like my sweet kitty! Charming story of Captain and his secret.
Kindergarten loved these simple illustrations and cute story. Plus it's a real cat!
Well, I liked this book up until the cat jumps into the boat and starts rowing. Why spoil a nice story about a cute cat (looks kinda like one of mine) with an anthropomorphic scene? Either have the cat acting all natural or entirely as a human. Why couldn't Captain have just strolled through the neighborhood to visit his lady love? Why include the rowboat scene at all? Great illustrations--you can tell the author/illustrator draws from real life--but a disappointing story.
The story is a bit jarring the first time you read it but it is a trip into fantasy. The cat has a secret life.
Nice book about a kitty cat.
Super schattig boekje. Captain Purr (of i/h Nederlands 'Kapitein Karel') mag in de sloot achter ons huis ook wel eens komen roeien. Hele mooie illustraties & prachtige aqua tinten.
What a strangely funny picture book.
Always love hearing the Kindy kids' discussion about 'sweethearts'. A sweet book.
