My Vampire and I Reviews

3 StarsI have no idea what compelled me to read this particular book. By all accounts, the reactions to this story on Goodreads are very split down the middle, with many not-so-nice reviews acting as a deterrent on the books main page. But regardless of this, I dived in anyway, simply because I needed some major paranormal fluff to lighten my mood after a string of intense reads, and this happened to cross my reading radar at just the right time. This was definitely a light read, for which I am grateful for. The characters were a tad over the top, but I liked them anyway. Roger was kind of awesome in his ridiculousness. He was so obviously full of life, although possibly a little naïve in his open-heartedness. I loved how willing he was to throw caution to the wind when he met Marcus, unquestioningly accepting his new vampire awareness, and subsequently embracing the sudden and extreme changes that were thrust upon his otherwise humdrum life. He took it all in stride – some may say way too quickly, which is a fair assessment, because this story featured an extreme case of insta-love. Actually, it had insta-lust, insta-sex, insta-love, insta-eternal commitment, insta-everything! Seriously, though, I didn’t care one bit. This is possibly due to the fact that I’m more open to this type of extreme romance when it’s set in a supernatural world, where I’ve already suspended my disbelief in order to believe the impossible is possible, including (but not limited to) the presence of swoon-worthy vampires and their ability to fall madly in love with someone in 5 minutes. The storyline was quite silly and fairly predictable, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. There may not have been much in the way of original vampire lore being created, but I found comfort in the familiarity of the various vampire myths used here. I also liked that the story didn’t take itself too seriously – it was fairly humorous, with a real slap-stick comedy feel to the whole thing. This was particularly relevant in Roger’s quirky, often outrageous narrative that, at times, spoke directly to the reader. Vampire-hood is great for the libido, guys. That old boast ‘we fucked all night’ really does apply to us. Jealous? You should be.The sex scenes between Roger and Marcus were steamy and in abundance. As I’ve mentioned, they dove right into the insta-sex, getting hot and raunchy within like 10 minutes of their initial meeting. The two didn’t waste any time getting between the sheets, and continued to partake in the crazy-good vamp-loving pleasure at every possible opportunity throughout the story. I wasn’t blown away, but I also wasn’t bored by it either, but I can predict most people would fall into one of those two categories while reading. I enjoyed this enough to consider continuing with the series at a later date. I’ll probably attack book two (My Vampire Lover) the next time I need some light and entertaining M/M vampire goodness.

M/M + Vampire = a lot of cold showers BUT I can't give 5 stars... Positive aspects* Both main characters are very well explored in this book. You will read mainly Roger POV but there will be some glimpses in Marcus life. It's very interesting the "on live" narration of Marcus stories. When he is telling something to Roger you will have few flashbacks. It's very wise choice in my view. I can count in my hand the number of times I read flashbacks without get bored... this book is one of them.* The writing is amazing. I already told about the great change of POVs, but everything is very well explained and it's perfect. There's a clear difference between the modern talk, Roger, and the more old and more formal speech, Marcus.* It's a non stop action kind of story. A true page turner, and the villains are perfect! Not so good aspects* Roger family. I don't understand why there is a family to this character. They are not present, and Roger said something (at the end) that made me veeeeeeery angry. He, in my view, is a selfish bastard, but I can't tell why (I will not spoil the story). I don't have kids, but I certainly have family, so I can put myself in my mother's shoes. If I was so selfish and absent as Roger I would made my mother go insane!!! Roger don't give a damn about his family, that's the true, and that annoyed me. Would be better without this part of the story. His family don't add something, so why they exist?*When the book started Roger give me the impression of be sooooo narcissist! Self confident is one thing, almost kiss a mirror (figure of speech) is not... is narcissism in my view. In my opinion he is narcissist.* The end. It's not a bad one... but time jump usually bother me. I prefer (very personal) more slow and well explain time course, so hardly when a story skip 20/30/40/50 (can't tell exactly or will spoil the end) years I like it.So 3 stars and I'll certainly read more of this serie.

i read t 32% before giving up it started off good, i thought the MC was charming and funny but after the two MC's meet i lost all interest the sex was weird, the dialogue was cheesy, and the extreme instalove was just overly unbelievable. no connection with these characters at all. I am just too bored with it to continue

Oh, where do I begin. First of all, I simply loved the character of Marcus, or at least the idea of him. Though this was really Roger's story, I found him to be a tad too superficial and not really as sincere and sweet as Marcus found him to be. Marcus, on the other hand, was what I would picture a Vampire lover to be: strong, sexy, and oh so powerful. The villains were also nicely done to a degree, though I wish they had been given more things to do. The basic idea was great, however the fact that most of the action took place through dialogue (whenever Roger was not apart of the main action) was kind of distracting. That being said, the love scenes were simply sensational; tantalizing, without being too overdone. I can't wait to read more from the series.

4.5 stars for a well written m/m vampire tale! While the speed in which Marcus and Roger 'hook up' seemed a little rushed to me, the rest of the story was well paced and really held my interest. I'm not usually a fan of the first person POV but with Marcus' flashbacks filling in his historical perspective, I think it worked quite well. Unlike a lot of m/m vampire stories I've read, My Vampire and I wasn't bogged down by needless sex scenes. Don't get me wrong. I enjoy the sex scenes as much as anyone else but sometimes they're just filler. The sex between Marcus and Roger was plenty steamy without feeling overdone.I also enjoyed how the story explained where Marcus came from. Knowing his background helped with understanding why and how Marcus was. The climatic scenes toward the end of the book were well placed without needlessly dragging out the story. My Vampire and I definitely made me want to read more in Bowie's series.

Normally I like my vampires dark, evil, brooding, seriously troubled, angsty, sinister..... everything which the vampires in this book are not. The villains are only a little bit evil, dangers are conquered easily and Marcus and Roger are just to cute together. BUT despite everything I really like this book :) It is funny, light and a wonderful read. I always had to laugh because of Rogers attitude: "I am in love with a vampire - Oooops, my bad - but hey, he is hot and a great guy, so okay!"Sooo, if you want a nice, funny book about two great guys loving each other (where one of them happens to be a hot vampire) then read this book. :) I will read the other books of this series also. Good job, J. P.!

ok.... it was an ok book, but only because I got it with a discount and only paid 99 cent for it. otherwise I would be a bit disappointed now I admit. the writing is ok and the story was fun to read, yet I never got into it. it was like watching a movie just because it happened to run at tv that moment. the whole book is too mushy for my liking. everyone is happy, everyone is in love, and also the bad guys are only kinda 1-dimensional. what I missed the most was the vampire-stuff.... oh, there's some blood-sucking, a lot of how-Marcus-became-a- vampire and more. But something was still missing, to me it didn't feel like a vampire-story, but a story about to guys where one of them happens to be a vampire a la "oh, didn't I mention that?well, it just wasn't "my"book

Just could not bring myself to like the main character. He is planning on giving up everything he knows for a man he's known for a couple hours?

La narrativa es bastante mala, igual que la de un mal fanfic, la historia esta llena de cliches y es super predecible. Lo bueno es que es fácil de leer y no es mortalmente aburrida.

Unlikeable characters, poor writing, more sex than story and that was almost a plus because the story didn't appeal to me. I did like the title and blurb.

This one really confused me!A content suitable to fill 2 or 3 paragraphs was stretched over about 90% of the book and the rest 10% were filled with a rushed and hasty summery of events which could have served as a blueprint for a halfway decent story!!!However my greatest complain is that many questions (view spoiler)[ mostly regarding Thomas (hide spoiler)] were left unanswered.I am not buying any further books in this series, but I might give the next volume a chance if I can borrow it.

I give this book a full 4 stars because even though I like it because it was so cute, sweet and it been awhile since I found a good M/M book that made me laugh. However I feel there were time when the author add to much that I feel could have been skip and there were time when I feel lost and wonder "wait, what happen?" But other then that it was a book I enjoy reading. The story begin with Roger, who names remind of a boy I have a crush with when I was elementary school so this book got some brownie points, but I'm getting of topic, and him celebrating his birthday, which is the same age as mine again I'm getting off topic. While celebrating he meets a handsome, to-die-for guy outside the patio dress as a vampire name Marcus. Although what Roger later finds out that late is that Marcus is in fact a vampire, of course after a steamy hot sex with said vampire, and finding out that Marcus has been waiting for him for many centuries because he was to one for him to love and be loved by him. However, evil forces are trying to break this two apart because there are other vampires who will do anything to destroy what little happiness Marcus has which include killing Roger because he is the one that bring him happiness. Will there love conquer all, like the old saying goes, and find there happily ever after in wash other arm or lost each other by vampires wanting nothing more then to kill them both. For those who read my review I know I said to also all the guys but I can't help it if the are my ideal type of guys so here it goes. I really, like in my top 10 guys I fall for, fall in love with Marcus because he is everything that any gal or guys is looking for in a boyfriend. He is sweet, charming, well-manner, rich, and extremely hot and there is too many to list so I'll just go with this. It also show I he really love and care for Roger because even though he want to turn Roger into a vampire so they can be together forever but he is willing to let him go if it becomes to much for him to handle, even though with a lot pain when he does that showing that he care more about his happiness then his own which make me fall more in love with him. I also love Roger because he is not afraid to voices his opinion and still keeping his cute wits and it show that he really love Marcus to the point that he will do anything for him and that show a lot of love for him. In the end I love them both and if you wish to find out more then I recommend this book for those who are vampire lover and don't mind if there is humor to it.

My Vampire & I is an entertaining contemporary paranormal tale with more than a few twists and turns to keep you guessing as you race through its fast paced plot. The story kept my interest from beginning to end and its witty dialogue between Marcus and Roger had me laughing on more than one occasion. These two are truly atypical of characters usually found in most vampire tales and that’s what makes them all the more special. Marcus is a great guy who loves the much younger Roger unquestionably even when he does and says stupid and unthinking things. At times he seems almost too perfect for words. Roger on the other hand is so gullible and sweet I often felt like slapping him and then saying grow up. Still, it was a joy to watch theses two men grow into their relationship and fight the danger that threatened them.

Hmmm.. As the 2 stars say.. It was ok..It didnt grab me at all, but still an OK story I guess..Its about Roger, who meets a vampire at his birthday party.. Falls in love with him within minutes gagging and they live happily ever after..Of course there is a near death (haha.. Vamp.. near death.. get it? ;) experience but they make it out alive.. Or as alive as a vamp is these days..Thats it really.. We get it from Rogers POV. And the way he remembered these first months with his vampire, made me wonder if his Vampire would die at the end.. Not even gonna lie, I would have prefered that.. Not because I didnt like him, but just becasue it would have been unexpected.. And sometimes unexpected is way better than expected.. Which this book is right from the first page..

Over-the-top, cheesey instant vampire mateI’m normally a fan of cheesy paranormal m/m romances, and the instant mate trope often works for me. Not in this case, as the human went from attracted to head-over-heels, extraordinarily saccharine sweet in love with what seemed to be zero self-reflection or self-awareness. In addition, the dangerous backstory threatening potential happiness was revealed in page after page of simplistic dialog and explanation as the vampire described his long history. In other words, I found it to be extremely and obnoxiously high on the “tell instead of show” scale for almost all of the important plot points. In sum, there was way, way too much uninspiring prose and relationship cheese for me to enjoy the smuttier aspects of the book at all.

Sekilas agak-agak mirip dengan Twilight. Cinta yang teramat dalam pada pandangan pertama. Hanya sekilas lho. Pertempurannya masih agak nanggung, but it's okay for me.

I'll start by saying I'm glad I read Blood Relations first. The MC, Roger, was annoying and obnoxious and it took great effort to continue past chapter 3. The instalove in this was just too much. At one point I even thought less of the other MC Marcus but then it got better and I got into the story. I will read the next one but only because It doesn't seem to star Roger.

I knew that I would like this book, as I do most of J. P. Bowie's books, but I like it for reasons I wasn't expecting. Of course there's lots of Vampire on man sex, and wondrous vampiric antics, but to my surprise and my enjoyment, there is a light and humorous thread running through the book. I mean, have you ever heard of a vampire named Roger? Neither had I. I hope the other four books are just as good.

Read this whole series and though its a bit cliched...vampire meets boy, vampire sleeps with/bites boy, boy becomes vampire, vampires live happily for all eternity....its still a good read has action in each book because each vampire has a problem from there past they must take care of to save the life of there mate themselves and the relationship between them.

Probably should have been a DNF but I was being stubborn and kept pushing through it. Insta-love and then too much constant reassurance of love on both parts... boring. Too much earth shattering sex... boring. Finally got to the fighting scene and it was over before it got interesting.
