Duet in Blood Reviews
J.P. Bowie returns to his Vampire universe with another story where your simple next door man meets handsome and wealthy vampire.Micah works in a West Hollywood bookstore and lives in a one bedroom apartment. He is an everyday guy with and everyday life. He was dumped from his boyfriend to be too bored and after some months of mourning he is ready to go out and try again. Like in all the worthy romance, the very first night he meets Joseph, an handsome stranger in Los Angeles for "some" business affairs. Joseph drags him in his posh suite and makes love to him till the morning after. Joseph seems insatiable and Micah as well. They start a one week affair that is the dream of every gay man: Joseph is gentle and caring, he vows Micah and introduces him to his "friends"; but Micah feels that something is not right, and it's not their chemistry. Then Joseph leaves for a business trip and he is not come back when expected and Micah is swept aways in an unbelievable worlds of vampires and wizards, and sex and blood! Two things are different in this new installment of the series: the book is much longer of the previous two (260 pages) and the story is a little less funny. What was a novelty in My Vampire and I and My Vampire Lover was that the usual angst image of the vampire, dark and brooding, was turned by the glittering light of West Hollywood. The chosen mate then, was an ordinary man who was more interested in the sexual braveness of his new lover than the "little" fact that he is a vampire...Maybe since this book is longer, the vampire theme is more developed, and also the fight of good against evil. The book is a big reunion for all the characters of the previous two, and they all fight against the evil ones, not one, but two, three and more times. You have just finished to read about a fight than soon after another danger is lurking. So the sex, that as usual follows the rule of good and often, is a bit diluted. What instead is a constant in all the books, is that the vampire character is not the high and almighty hero of the usual vampire romance, but he is more or less a man in love, with all the insecurities that follow, and the object of his love is a rather simple guy, with all the joys and pains of the ordinary man: ex cheating lover, an ordinary work, a small apartment, good friends and a family somewhere...http://www.amazon.com/dp/1907010890/?...
Read this whole series and though its a bit cliched...vampire meets boy, vampire sleeps with/bites boy, boy becomes vampire, vampires live happily for all eternity....its still a good read has action in each book because each vampire has a problem from there past they must take care of to save the life of there mate themselves and the relationship between them.
This series continues the same, the writing is bad and the storyline is flat, like seriously why does it take to kilm just one person after a thousand times you have already win him over. They all keep trusting the people from the dark side to win whilst figting the dark side and obviously everyone wants to help. The author also deals with rape in quite a bad floppy and unimportant way.
I just couldn't finish this book. It was boring and all around deep as a mud puddle. I didn't read previous parts so I can't be sure but to me it seemed as everyone was making childish mistakes and never own them. Markus was a reason for Joseph's suffering and being abused because he didn't thought it was good time to be together when they first meet. And it doesn't seems like he was sorry after that. Everything could be different if he didn't though he knows the fuck better - which he didn't. Then Micah is whine little woman - and not because he is gay. He just seems to be oh so innocent and naive. They told him they are vamps but nooo he still is surprised how fast they can travel. Really? The whole love is sooooooooooooooooo sweeeeeeeeeeeeet it's just disgusting. And of course every one knows better than Micah what is good for him. Which just products more mistakes. Well, to say it short - I didn't like this story and had to quit reading when Micah took his sorry ass into the plane and run crying because he couldn't see his future with his big-to-death love, which apparently wasn't big enough when facing troubles. His supposed intelligence died for me this same minute when he cease to see that, knowing how the world truly looks like, there is no escape and no place to hide.
Duet in blood, in my opinion, is the best in the series so far. The MCs are Micah and Joseph. I liked Micah because he was smart, strong willed and funny. I even liked Roger a lot more in this story. My only issue is I feel it was a little rushed and compacted. But overall I really enjoyed it:)
